My Weight Loss Journey

Hi There, I’m Justine. And I understand your struggle. 

At 45, I was a peri-meniopausal, single parent with four dependent children. I was under incredible stress, working shift work as a Registered Nurse, studying Naturopathy full time & my self care was zero. After I came out of the seven year haze of a messy, protracted divorce to rediscover myself…..the self I discovered was 20kg heavier, inflamed, unwell, and my this self was sporting a set of armpit boobs and a muffin top that had grown into something more like a three tier divorce cake. 

To add insult to injury, I had a completely different body hormonally and metabolically. My old ‘dieting’ favourites no longer worked. Exercise was painful, thanks to joint pain & actually seemed to make my weight issues worse. My hormones were all over the place, my periods were erratic, heavy and often catastrophic if I happened to be at work when “Aunt Flo” visited. I was completely at my wit’s end. I didn’t even recognise myself in the mirror anymore. Who was this bloated, unwell looking woman looking back at me? Clothes - frumpy & with elastic waists were my new friend. Swimsuits - disastrous. Bra’s - unable to contain the burgeoning back & side boob action. 

What did you do Justine? Well I’m glad you asked. 

I decided to focus on my health rather than my weight. I knew from being a Naturopath & an RN that stress causes weight gain through the release of cortisol (an adrenal hormone) and that when cortisol is chronically high this signals to the liver to release stored sugar. I also knew that when there’s sugar in the blood, the pancreas has to release INSULIN and that this bad boy is a FAT STORAGE hormone.
